Memorial Day Hiking. NOT!

We had our Memorial Day weekend completely planned to go hiking in the Flaming Gorge/Vernal area. We were faithfully checking the weather on a daily basis. It was "supposed" to be partly cloudy with a slight chance for showers. Lets just say it rained buckets the entire weekend. We only stayed in Vernal the one night and decided to go on an adventure and drive somewhere "different" after seeing the Vernal temple and walking through the DUP Museum. We ended up in Green River Wyoming of all places! We were lucky enough to stumble upon a brand new hotel in a very "old" city. We ate at a Mexican restaurant, walked around downtown (lots of bars and big trucks), then drove around a bit. We actually grew quite fond of the little town. The weather was starting to cooparate and we started planning some hikes in the general area. Unfortunately, we woke up to pouring down rain AGAIN. We went to plan "C" where we thought about staying a night in Park City to do some hiking there. It never stopped raining on our drive there. We froze in Park City long enough to get fudge at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and ended up going home a night early. We popped popcorn, watched a movie and huddled under blankets while listening to the storm outside. I told the kids we had to go on at least ONE hike for the weekend. Monday morning we ended up "hiking" from our home and through a park to get to Wal-mart where we bought ice cream. It wasn't the weekend we "planned" on having, but had a great time improvising. We definately won't forget this trip!
